Spring planting session

This week Ms Davies from Ysgol Gymraeg spent over £200 that has been raised via Treegeneration on a variety of edible and pollinator friendly plants to go out in the school gardens. On Thursday May 16th, Rob from Treegeneration, along with Siân Saunders from Bee Friendly, and Jane Powell, came down to the school, and with help from Ms Davies and her class, we made a good start at planted everything up.

Here is a list of the stuff that is going in the garden thanks to the funds that have been raised:

Blinging up the bird boxes

Last year we launched the Glasu Iard Yr Ysgol campaign and decided that any money raised up until Christmas, would be used to buy bird boxes that would be installed in time for the spring nesting season. At this stage we have raised just under £100, which was enough to buy 4 bird boxes.

Siân Saunders from Caru Gwenyn (Bee Friendly) talks to pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg

On a frosty morning on January 16th, Siân Saunders, who is a Ceredigion "Champion" for the Bee Friendly campaign in Wales, visited the school to talk about how it can be integrated with Glasu Iard Yr Ysgol.

Bee Friendly is a national campaign, possibly the first of it's kind in the World, which aims to make Wales more sustainable place by supporting bees, and other pollinator species, many of which are in danger.

Siân talked to the pupils about how the school can help to deliver the Campaign's objectives, in particular:

Edition #2 of BuzzaBAZOO! is on it's way

It's been a while since the first one, but the second edition of BuzzaBAZOO! is finally under production, and is due out at the end of January / early February.

The first edition had a "Free-bee" which focussed on starlings, and in a similar way this next edition will have a focus on bees.

The campaign has raised £100 to date, and there will be an update on what we have done with the money, along with our next fundraising target and set of plans.
